A newly married Malaysian couple went viral on social networking sites for holding a reception in knee-deep floods in Meru, a town in the Klang district of Selangor, Malaysia.

The beautiful bride Sofiyah Nabilah Sulaiman told local media they got married on Dec.18 in Puncak Alam, Selangor.

They had booked the venue at Meru in October for a homestay to accommodate about 200 of their guests, families and friends.

But it rained so relentlessly that almost all the guests could not come, except the catering service and photographer.

The venue started to get flooded with water reaching up to their knees in the afternoon and waist by the evening.

So the sporting couple went ahead with the photo-shoot which is now viral.

The 20-second video clip shows the happy couple smiling in knee-deep muddy flood waters.

The video also showed them enjoying meals at a partially-submerged dining table.

The joy was evident while they sat at their traditional wedding dais even with flood waters nearly spilling over the edge and just a handful of guests present.

The video garnered over 9 million views on TikTok, with many netizens encouraging the couple to continue their marriage despite the flood.

Sofiyah said that she hopes to hold another proper reception with her family and friends present.

The death toll from Malaysia's worst floods in years rose to 27 on Wednesday, as a clean-up operation gathered pace and residents assessed the damage unleashed by the disaster.

Days of torrential rain caused rivers to overflow at the weekend, swamping cities, cutting off major roads, and forcing tens of thousands of people to flee their homes.

Selangor — Malaysia's most densely populated and wealthiest state has been one of the worst-hit areas.
