FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — Everyone knows someone who had to change their wedding plans because of COVID and just when it looked like all the postponed weddings were good to go, now there are growing concerns for the Delta variant.

“July 20, 2019, in Central Park in New York City,” said Laura Callan of Tewksbury describing the date her boyfriend of five years, Corey Pond, proposed to her. They set their wedding date for Nov. 14, 2020, and you already know what happened.

“March 17 I will never forget the day, a day for as long as I’m living,” said Lakeview Pavilion event organizer Michelle Ryder describing the date wedding venues like Lakeview Pavilion shut down forcing couples everywhere to change plans. “Went to 2021, 2022, flat out canceled, did a micro wedding with us just had a ceremony. 2020 was supposed to be our biggest year yet. 2021 has increased so much because of all the weddings that were moved and it doesn’t matter the date anymore, it could be a Thursday, it could be a Monday.”

Lakeview Pavilion says some couples have had to postpone four different times. For Laura and Corey, this will be the third date and they say with every date change, their priorities change as well.

“The first time around, I was so worried about perfect decor, all the perfect little details and now, I’m like, ‘I don’t care about the little details. I want all my people there,’” said Callan.

“I think waiting all the time, too, has built up for that day,” said Pond. “Third times a charm right?”

Their new date is Oct. 28, but there is, of course, rising concern with rising cases from the delta variant.

“Thanks for bringing that up it’s kind of a sore subject,” said Callan.

Venues like Four Points by Sheraton Norwood say they’re seeing people RSVP later than usual. Wedding planners also say they’ve noticed trends like smaller weddings and double weddings.

“Some couples put on their RSVP card ‘You are not allowed unless you’re vaccinated,’” said Ryder. “About 50 percent have actually already gotten married, they were just waiting to have that big celebration.”

“It’s definitely been stressful, that’s for sure. Yeah, I’ve only had a couple breakdowns,” said Callan. “They had no Fridays and Saturdays even any Sundays, so now we’re booked for Thursday and it’s going to be the best Thursday night wedding that the state has ever seen.”
