MUMBAI: Maharashtra housing minister and NCP senior leader Jitendra Awhad bucked the trend of having big fat weddings as his daughter Natasha’s marriage was registered at his Thane home in a simple ceremony with no fanfare on Tuesday.

Only a few guests were present as his daughter Natasha married Alan Patel. "It is painful to see that a girl who has been playing on your shoulders for 25 years is not going to be at home. Well Alan is Christian, so respecting his religion, rituals will be followed. Waiting for the Church ceremony,” Awhad said. Natasha and Alan have known each other since their school days.

In the recent past, several politicians have had lavish weddings with hundreds of guests throwing Covid-19 protocols to the wind. However Awhad said he did not want to have a big fat wedding for his daughter and a simple registered marriage was chosen over a grand ceremony.

Awhad said that according to his daughter’s wishes, the wedding was a simple affair but a reception will be hosted for the people of his constituency.
