Congratulations to Jean and George Williams who celebrated their diamond wedding on March 3.

On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of their marriage, the couple received a card from the Queen.

Paulene and Phil Jones of Station Road, who married in Yorkshire in 1962, also celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary.

Meanwhile, Cliff and Mavis Butler, who ran the Spar shop many years ago, celebrated their platinum anniversary, having been married for 70 years on the 8th of this month.

Many members of the Montgomery community congratulated these couples, and the Town Crier added her own well wishes, saying, “All of these people are great Montgomery people who have contributed to the life and events of the town for many years. The Montgomery community and I as Town Crier send them love, best wishes and many congratulations.”

Book Day fun

Montgomery school children dressed as a wide variety of colourful book characters for World Book Day on Thursday March 3. Headteacher, Anna Griggs, said, “Our pupils enjoyed the assembly where we paraded our costumes and we also guessed the character and book that inspired the different outfits.”

The whole school text for World Book Day 2022 was 'Dear Dinosaur: T Rex on Tour'. This book was chosen as it linked in with the current topics of dinosaurs, ‘All Around the World’ and ‘Amazing Architecture’. It had many letters, postcards and emails as writing stimulus that pupils could respond to.

Mrs Regan, the school’s Languages, Literacy and Communication Leader, said, “The pupils looked fantastic in their costumes. A huge thank you to the parents for making such an effort too.” She added, “To complement World Book Day we are also running a Read for Good Readathon at the moment to buy books for children's hospitals.”

Dathliad 2022

Montgomery School’s Dathliad (celebration) was led by the Criw Cymraeg leaders from Years 2 to 6. They planned the event during the recent pupil voice afternoon with Mrs Mees, Cymraeg Leader.

Pupils participated in art and handwriting competitions. The work was anonymously judged by a panel of staff and the winners were awarded certificates. The fantastic work was displayed in the school hall, class TEAMs and school facebook.

During the Dathliad, classes performed a range of Welsh songs including 'Hey Mistar Urdd', 'Diolch, Diolch Iesu' and 'Aderyn Melyn'. They ended their celebration by singing the Welsh National Anthem.

A link to the video was shared with parents. With covid restrictions lifting by the end of March, the school hopes that for future school events they will once again be able to invite parents to enjoy the children's performances live.
