MLA Konappa conducts mass wedding ceremony in Kaghaznagar

Kumram Bheem-Asifabad: Sirpur (T) MLA Koneru Konappa sponsored the marriage of 24 financially poor and tribal couples to express his gratitude for electing him thrice, in Kaghaznagar on Friday.

The couples, mostly tribals including a differently-abled groom, hailing from different parts of Sirpur (T) Assembly constituency, ceremoniously entered into wedlock amidst Vedic hymns and in the presence of their family members at a mass wedding ceremony held on the premises of Annadana Satram, a daily poor feeding centre operated by Konappa, in the town.

Konappa and his wife Rama Devi graced the occasion and personally monitored the proceedings of the weddings. They gifted crockery, new clothing and an almirah to the newly wedded pairs, fan, and household appliances, besides sponsoring mangal-sutra and toe-rings and offering a sumptuous lunch to family members of both the bride and groom. They congratulated the pairs and then dined along with the couples following the wedding.

The couples, their relatives and family members arrived at the venue using different means of transit including trolleys, jeeps and auto-rickshaws. The hapless pairs were visibly elated to tie the knot at the event on a grand note. The poor feeding centre turned into a wedding hall with the legislator officiating at the mass marriages.

Bowing their heads to the legislator, the couples expressed gratitude to him for solemnizing their wedding. Velladi Kailash, a groom from Chintalamanepalli mandal centre said that he had never expected that his wedding would be held on a colorful note and such a large number of guests would attend it. He disclosed that he approached the MLA when his parents were struggling to perform his wedding.

Annam Roja, a bride from Adipelli village in Koutala mandal, said she got married to Athram Narasimhulu at the programme, considering the weak financial background of her parents. Shravani Kodipe, a girl from Chandrapalli village in Dahegaon mandal said that it was a dream come true moment for her to have been married to Venkatesh at the mass wedding.

District Collector Rahul Raj, Additional Collector Varun Reddy, Zilla Parishad vice-chairperson Koneru Krishna, Koneru Charitable Trust Chairman Koneru Vamshi, Municipal chairperson Saddam Hussain, vice-chairperson Rachakonda Girish Kumar, Agriculture market committee chairman Kasam Srinivas, ZPTC members and mandal parish presidents attended the event.
