Millionaire says charging guests is the ‘most financially sound way’ to plan a wedding: ‘Ridiculous idea’

An alleged millionaire’s wedding advice has gotten mixed reactions on TikTok.

Alex Hormozi claims to make $85 million a year at 32 years old. Much of his content features financial and business advice. In one video, Hormozi shared his take on planning a financially sound wedding. Not everyone was a fan.

“The most financially sound way to plan a wedding is not what you think,” Hormozi said. He explained that you shouldn’t be “asking for gifts or having some register where everyone buys trinkets you’ll never use. Instead, consider selling tickets to your wedding that cover the cost of every single person you want.”

There was a woman standing next to him in the video who didn’t say much, but her facial expressions said it all. She looked stunned at his suggestions.

“Instead of having a budget and having to limit to only the amount of people that you can afford, every single person can pay for themselves — and maybe even a little extra to put a down payment on a house or start a new business,” he explained.

Hormozi said that planning a wedding this way will provide you with an “investment you can use for life.”

But a lot of people were not exactly buying what Hormozi was selling.

“I would never come to somebody’s wedding that I have to pay for,” a person said.

“If I’m paying to enter a wedding, I’m no longer a guest but a customer. Ridiculous idea,” someone wrote.

“There’s literally no one in my life I love enough to overlook the audacity of charging for a wedding,” another commented.

However, users from other cultures pointed out that this was a common wedding tradition where they are from.

“As an Asian, that’s what we’ve been doing all this while,” a user wrote.

“This is how we do it in Romania,” a TikToker added.

“Lebanese people are way ahead of this. When we get invited to weddings, we put money in the card to cover our plate cost plus give a gift to the newlyweds,” someone posted.
