The Queen’s chef has been appointed Lieutenant of the Royal Victorian Order (RVO) by the monarch.

Mark Flanagan oversaw the dishes served at the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s 2018 wedding reception and led the catering team at other major events such as state banquets.

Rather than a formal sit-down dinner, Meghan and Harry’s guests were treated to a selection of bowl dishes, including Windsor pork belly slowly roasted for 10 hours with applesauce and crackers.

Jamie Oliver recently revealed that he tried to use his reputation as a celebrity chef to get a big gig at the royal wedding, claiming he offered to provide catering services for the ceremony, but his letter to the Sussexes failed received no response.

Speaking at Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch in December 2018, Oliver said he wrote the couple to tell them they will ‘sort the food’ and bring together the best of ‘British and American chefs’ for the feast .

He said: “I would have done it for free.

“I like it for a while. I would have brought in the whole American gang, we have all the British guys. It would have been the best kitchen brigade ever.”

He added, “They’re very good at protocol and doing these shows, so we were probably a bit of a renegade.”
