Hiccups and hangups are inevitable on someone's wedding day, but Shenice Beirne of Gloucester, England, didn't expect she'd spend part of her big day hitchhiking to get to her ceremony.

ITV reported that her chauffeur-driven car broke down 25 minutes away from the church, and the bride was already running 20 minutes late.

Beirne wrote on Facebook she borrowed the chauffeur's phone to call different taxi companies, but didn't receive any help. Taking matters into her own hands, she started to hitchhike.

"I couldn't believe it," Beirne told Newsweek. "I thought 'This isn't happening' but at the same time I found it funny."

It took some time before she was able to flag a car down successfully. Although one person stopped to see if the bride was OK, he told Beirne he didn't have any room in his van.

Not to be discouraged, Beirne continued to try to flag someone down in the hopes of making it to her wedding.

"My sister and I stood in the road in my big white dress waving down cars," she wrote. "After around 15 minutes...yes 15 whole minutes of cars and cars passing someone who was obviously on the way to their wedding, someone finally stopped to see if we were OK and offered us a lift to the church."

Beirne explained the good samaritans were taking a trip in the area and said they were her "guardian angels."

"We were so relieved when someone finally stopped and couldn't thank them enough," Beirne said. "Once we arrived at the church I still couldn't believe what had happened but had to quickly get myself ready as we were over an hour late."

She enjoyed the rest of the day but didn't initially get the names of the two people who saved the day. After posting about her experience to Facebook, fellow users shared the post more than 400 times in the hopes of reaching the two who helped the bride.

The post reached the two, Matt and Michelle Moore, and Michelle commented under the photos.

"No probs," Michelle wrote. "It was a pleasure to help you on your big day! Hope you had a fabulous day and a fantastic life together as husband and wife."

Despite a rocky start, it remained a special day for Beirne.

"Looking back now it's such a funny story to tell and still can't believe it happened to me, but I wouldn't change a thing," Beirne told Newsweek. "I had the most amazing day."
