CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - An Amherst woman has died after being injured in a crash on Interstate 90 last weekend.

The family of Carolyn Huston told 19 News that she passed away Thursday after spending days in the hospital.

Barbara Peterson, Huston’s sister, said she was headed home from her 50th wedding anniversary celebration.

The crash took place on Saturday, Oct. 9, in the westbound lanes of I-90 near the West 14th Street exit.

Huston’s other sister, Joyce Sibert, told 19 News’ Kristin Mazur that her sister’s family had eaten dinner in Cleveland’s Little Italy neighborhood prior to the crash.

“Their kids took them out to dinner there for a celebration. It was a beautiful evening,” Sibert said. They were just glowing. Everything was perfect that night.”

But perfect quickly faded and pain of the worst kind soon struck.

“At first it was shock, that they could be in accident after such a beautiful evening,” Sibert said.

Sibert said a driver who was drag-racing crashed into the vehicle occupied by her sister, her sister’s husband and one of the couple’s daughters. Her sister was taken to the hospital in critical condition and passed away days later. Meanwhile, Sibert said her brother-in-law and niece were badly bruised, but are expected to be okay.

“I think that people need to realize that cars are lethal weapons,” Sibert told 19 News.

Cleveland police are investigating, Sibert said, and have not made an arrest, yet.

“Her granddaughters are getting older and so are her grandsons. There were the dreams and hopes of rocking their babies some day. And that’s all gone,” Sibert said.
