A couple from Plymouth have converted their family home into a dream wedding venue - and it comes with stunning historic features and breathtaking views.

Rowland and Megan Bassett moved from Lincolnshire to Plymouth a few years ago and then decided to transform their home into a fairy-tale wedding location.

Hareston Manor, in Yealmpton, offers a magical spot for couples to tie the knot in a private ceremony in Plymouth.

The building itself has a rich history, and dates back to the early 15th century. It was even registered in the Dooms Day Book, which is a manuscript much of England and parts of Wales completed in 1086 by order of King William the Conqueror.

The venue's chapel goes back even further and was said to be dedicated to St. Martin and first licensed by the Bishop of Exeter in 1379.

In the 1960s, Rowland's grandfather restored the house, and now it is the perfect place for that wonderful special day.

"We've got some amazing views for weddings," Rowland said. "We want to future-proof everything here for the future generations so we needed to start making the place pay for itself a little bit.

"We're doing a very limited number of weddings, we don't want to be a wedding factory. We want it to be manageable so when we do events for a wedding we want to do it to high standards.

"We also have a really tall giant tee pee which works really well, not a boring white marquee.

The luxury grounds also run as a glamping business, with wood-fired hot tubs and wooden eco pods.

The shiny new venue was finally able to open its doors after the Covid-19 pandemic forced wedding locations to close, and Megan and Rowland are throwing a summer ball to thank the NHS for their tireless efforts over the past year.

The pair are hosting the Devon Junior Doctors Summer Ball this Saturday (July 31) and will be supplying all the staff with a complimentary welcome drink.

The duo are asking for donations towards the NHS workers' drinks so they can relax in style.

A GoFundMe has been set up by the wedding bosses, which reads: "Over the last 18 months our NHS has worked tirelessly under extremely difficult circumstances to provide care for the patients of Plymouth and surrounding areas.

"We at Hareston Manor Weddings and Events are hosting the Devon Junior Doctors Summer Ball this Saturday 31st July.

"Hareston Manor will be supplying all of the Doctors with a complimentary welcome drink.

"We are asking for donations from the people of Plymouth and surrounding areas to donate a small amount for the Doctors to have a cocktail or two during the evening.

"We are sure that any amount donated would be gratefully received by our NHS heroes.

Rowland added: "We wanted to raise a bit of awareness for the ball and see if we can get people in Plymouth and the surrounding areas to put their hands in their pockets to raise a few quid to buy them a drink.
