OLDHAM couple, Vicky Barker, 32, and her husband Craig, 30, have finally had their "magical" wedding day 24 after a twelve month delay.

Their wedding on July 24, was originally set for July 3, but the couple decided to hold out until all restrictions were lifted and struck lucky when a cancellation opened at their chosen venue.

Vicky said: “Everything happens for a reason and that day was meant to be.

“For me you can’t have a wedding without dancing, you want to see people smiling and be able to go up to talk to people around the room and see people who you haven’t seen for such a long time.

“It was very emotional and very overwhelming,” she added.

The pair have been together for eight years after meeting at their local, The Coach and Horses in Shaw, after Vicky made the first move.

Vicky, who had just come out of a previous relationship, said: “I went out with the girls and there he was, and I just said to the girls ‘Oh my god’ look at him, I’m having him.

“It was a nerve-wracking thing for me to do but I plucked up the courage and did it.

Reflecting on her wedding day she said: “We sat down for our meal looked at each other took a deep breath, as the biggest part was done, looked around the room and just took it all in, seeing everybody there talking we thought we’ve done this with everyone we want here.

The couple have two sons, stepbrothers Noah,9, and Joshua,5 who were “very excited” about the day.

Vicky added: “Noah was my ring bearer, so he walked down the aisle first, well practically ran, then sat next to my Mum burst into tears and said, ‘I love my Mummy so much she looks so beautiful and I’m so glad she’s marrying Craig'.

The wedding was the first without restrictions at The Victoria Hotel in Chadderton.

Vicky said to see all the businesses that came together at the wedding, from vendors to photographers, “happy and smiling doing what they love” made the day “even more magical”.

Petal Bloom a combined flower shop and tearoom on Turf Lane, Oldham has been inundated with engaged couples looking for the perfect flowers for their special day.

Face to face consultations are now back on, after being put on hold over the pandemic, with brides and grooms flooding in for complimentary afternoon tea and wedding planning sessions.

Donna Watson, who has owned Petal Bloom for five years, said the business is taking on a backlog of consultations alongside multiple weddings a week.

In the tearoom itself it is however “quite chilled” she explained, adding: “Everyone comes in has a coffee enjoys themselves has a laugh, gets the flowers out the way then has an afternoon tea.

She added: “There’s lots of regular and new faces and customers coming in and we’re enjoying that and likewise the customers are enjoying being able to come in and see us as well. Our brides and grooms become part of our Petal Bloom family.

Wedding planner and owner of Grace In Spring Weddings, Clarissa Donohue is also embracing the return of weddings without restrictions.

Clarissa who is based in Royton, Oldham became a wedding planner after missing organising the logistics of her own wedding in 2017.

She is currently finishing her wedding planning qualifications and getting to know suppliers and other planners in the area while working as a mental health nurse in Rochdale.

Clarissa also freelances as a wedding venue coordinator at The Stable Wedding Farm, a family run business, in Saddleworth which held its first wedding two weeks ago after formally opening in 2019.

Discussing the synergy between the two professions, she said: “In my day-to-day job as a mental health professional I reassure and give a lot of support.

She also makes sure to ask couples about their love stories which she then uses for wedding inspiration.
