The new landlord of Kilwinning's Dalgarven House Hotel has unveiled plans for a summer house sauna with stunning river views.

Alan Carnegie is seeking permission, partly retrospective, from North Ayrshire Council to erect an outdoor wooden sauna cabin, decking with hot tub and a 1.9m privacy fence at the revived venue.

The Dalgarven closed abruptly at the start of 2020 but was revived a year later under the new stewardship of Mr Carnegie and now bills itself as a spa and wedding venue.

Now, as part of a vision to breathe new life into the hotel, he is asking planners to give the green light to erecting the summer house sauna at the edge of the venue's existing car park — providing an elevated view of the River Garnock.

Planning documents validated by North Ayrshire Council this week state: "The application, partly retrospective, seeks to enhance an underused, chipped area between the hotel and raised riverbank to create increased amenities for hotel guests, namely an area of composite decking, adjacent privacy fencing with gate and a glass balustrade for safety to replace existing rope barrier.

"This 6m x 3m x 2m high wooden and glass doored summer house, with built in two person sauna is proposed to sit outside the new fence, with access through the glass doors via a gap to be created in fence to the deck area.

"The elevation facing the car park and sides will be painted white to blend with fence and wall. It will also be used as a relaxation area for spa guests in the deck area."

The proposed work, if given the go-ahead, would see two of the 40 existing car parking spaces disappearing to make way for the summer house sauna.

It is also proposed that the new feature would have a 10pm curfew for use and alcohol consumption.
