A couple from Tamil Nadu will host a wedding reception in the metaverse.

In Metaverse, Dinesh S P and Janaganandhini Ramaswamy will host a wedding reception.

In Metaverse, a Tamil Nadu couple is planning their wedding reception.

Dinesh S P and Janaganandhini Ramaswamy will marry in Tamil Nadu’s Sivalingapuram village on the first Sunday of February, but their reception will be streamed live online.

According to the Times of India, the couple will turn on their laptops after the wedding ceremony to enter a virtual venue for their Hogwarts-themed reception, which will be attended by friends and family members from all over the world.

“I came up with the idea of having a Metaverse wedding reception, and my fiancee liked it as well,” Dinesh, an IIT Madras project associate, told TOI. “I’ve been into crypto and blockchain technology for the last year, and have been mining ethereum, a form of cryptocurrency.”

Because blockchain is Metaverse’s foundational technology, he added, “when my wedding was planned, I considered having a reception in Metaverse.”

The Metaverse is a virtual reality world in which users can ‘live’ and interact with others via digital avatars.

It combines various technological elements such as augmented reality, blockchain, and virtual reality.

Dinesh took to Twitter to share a short video of his upcoming wedding reception, describing it as “India’s first Metaverse marriage.”

Janaganandhini, Dinesh’s fiancee, was “ecstatic” at the prospect of a virtual reception.

“It’s fitting in a way,” she explained, “because we met on Instagram and will be having our wedding reception on Meta.”

Dinesh and Janaganandhini are both Harry Potter fans, so their wedding reception will be themed after the wizarding world.

The bride and groom will be represented by avatars dressed in traditional attire, while guests will be given login information so they can select an avatar and enter the reception.

They will be able to interact with other guests during the one-hour reception.

Dinesh approached TardiVerse, a “new gen mixed reality based Metaverse powered by Blockchain tech,” to bring their Metaverse reception idea to life
