Tracee Ellis Ross turned to Instagram to share an old throwback photograph from her former television show “Girlfriends,” and some fans now want a reunion or a reboot.

“Girlfriends” was a television sitcom about the lives and loves of four Black women created by Mara Brock Akil. The show about four friends was a fan favorite and aired for eight seasons on the CW Network.

Along with Ross, the show also starred Persia White, Golden Brooks and Jill Marie Jones as friends of Ross’ character, Joan.

Ross posted an old photograph of herself along with White, Brooks and Jones on her Instagram page. The actresses were clad in black cocktail dresses paired with matching high heels in the throwback. Ross captioned the post, “Girlfriends gallery shoot! What season do you think this was?”

Some fans began to feel nostalgic after seeing the post. One fan commented that they wanted a reunion so they could see Joan’s wedding. “We want to see Joan’s wedding,” wrote the fan.

Another fan said, “Season 3. I wish you would have Girlfriends reunion. I still watch the reruns all the time.”

“Girlfriends reboot pleaaeee.”

Fans felt robbed with how the sitcom ended in February 2008. Due to the Writers Guild of America strike in 2007, “Girlfriends” never filmed a finale. After first planning to move the show to Sunday nights, the network later decided it was too expensive to enter reproduction to finish the show, and canceled it after eight seasons.

With that, fans of “Girlfriends” were deprived of a proper ending for characters Antoinette (Toni), Joan, Maya and Lynn. And after more than 20 years, fans still want a proper ending for the four friends, while other fans wouldn’t mind a reboot. They made their wishes known in the comments under Ross’ Instagram post.

In 2019, the cast did a sit-down interview with Charlamagne Tha God about a reboot.

“People will literally come up to us and say, ‘Why don’t you guys get on Netflix,’ ” Ross said. “But what they don’t realize is we literally have no power over that. We weren’t executive producers or showrunners; we were just actresses, so we have no say in none of that.”

The cast of “Girlfriends” also included Reginald C. Hayes, Keesha Sharp and Khalil Kain.
